About
Over the years I have been involved with developing projects on 'mobilities' and in particular cycling, qualitative approaches to studying work in unstable employment environments and the relationship between work and mental health - resulting in the coffee table page turner 'Work and the Mental Health Crisis in Britain' written with Carl Walker.
I have also worked on suicide - this has also resulted in a book 'Understanding Suicide' - written with Susanne Langer, Jonathan Scourfield and Michael Shiner. We have published papers on gendered aspects of suicide and death as well as gender and research methods.
Alongside upsetting stuff I am currently writing a book for Palgrave Macmillan entitled 'The Sociology of Fun' and developing projects on sex and sexuality in the Centre for Gender Studies at Sussex.
I am affiliated to the 'Gender and Inequality Research Group' at Sussex and also a founder member of the 'Cycling and Society Research Group'.
